Your disability limits your ability to do many things that other people do without difficulty. However, you have learned to adapt, and desire to move forward in your life and career. You know you are capable of doing jobs that you are qualified for. But sometimes it seems that Wisconsin employers won't give you a chance to demonstrate that ability.

Were you denied an interview for a job that you have the qualifications for because you are legally blind - without a discussion of accommodations which would allow you to work? Were you passed over for promotion - seemingly because you use a wheelchair? Do you believe your layoff was a result of your hearing impairment? Have your requests for reasonable accommodations that would compensate for your physical limitation been ignored?

Disability discrimination lawyers at the employment law firm of Alan C. Olson & Associates, s.c., can help. Contact us through this Web site to schedule a free initial phone consultation.

A "disability" is a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life function. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits disability discrimination against individuals in employment as well as in public services, public accommodations, and public transportation. The federal ADA applies to employers with 15 or more employees and protects individuals who are disabled or handicapped, who have a history of a disability, or who are perceived as being disabled, when they can perform the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

The employment provisions of the ADA prohibit employers from discriminating against qualified employees with disabilities in all aspects of employment including:

  • Application procedures and hiring
  • Compensation and benefits
  • On-the-job training
  • Advancement
  • Work-related activities
  • Discharge

Our discrimination attorneys handle wrongful termination and other employment disability discrimination claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act for employees throughout the Milwaukee metro area.

Employers are required to provide reasonable accommodation for a qualified individual with a disability, if requested. The employer must interact with the employee to determine what reasonable accommodation can be provided. Individuals who are unable to engage in work activity because of a physical or mental disability may be entitled to accommodation for their disability. If accommodation has been refused or discontinued, or if you've been discriminated against, we can help.

The law seeks to eliminate any artificial barriers for the employment and promotion of the disabled or those perceived to be disabled. If you have suffered disability discrimination or wrongful termination because you are handicapped, contact us to discuss the ways in which we will help restore your rights.
